Hebei Jinbiao manufactured and supplied the security boundary fence for a critical infrastructure site in Guyana in 2023. The site sits in a tropical, high-rainfall environment, and the brief had two halves: keep unauthorised entry out, and keep the steel intact in year fifteen the way it was in year one.
Our scope covered the mesh panels, posts, fixings and coating specification, shipped as one sea consignment to Guyana. The concrete block wall, the foundations and the erection were outside that scope.

Anti-climb welded mesh panels with a narrow aperture, made to the dimensions in the project specification
Heavy-duty galvanised steel posts, with powder coating available as a second weather barrier
Reinforced joints and prefabricated panels, so sections assemble on site without cutting
Panel-to-post fixings and brackets, packed by section for the voyage
Sea freight to Guyana, packed for container loading
Two different pressures land on the same requirement. Around Georgetown and the coastal belt, it is asset protection at depots, plants and compounds. In the interior, mining camps and backdam operations in Region Seven have seen repeated armed robberies over recent years, widely reported in the Guyanese press.
It is worth being straight about what a fence does in that second case. A boundary fence fixes a controlled line, slows an approach, and channels movement past lighting, cameras and guards. It does not stop a determined armed group on its own. Fencing earns its place as the outer layer of a layered site plan, not as a substitute for one.
On this site the mesh is carried on top of a concrete block wall rather than set into the ground, and that arrangement does three things. The wall gives a level base that will not settle in soft or waterlogged ground. It lifts the mesh above easy reach from outside. And it keeps the bottom of the panels clear of standing water, which is the most common cause of early coating failure in a tropical climate.
Because the wall carries the load, post spacing and base fixings matter more than panel weight. Posts are set along the wall line at consistent centres with the mesh tensioned between them, so the finished run reads as one continuous barrier with no gap at the base to work under.
It follows what you are protecting and how the site is laid out. For a compound, depot or plant, an anti-climb welded mesh panel on steel posts gives the best balance of visibility, delay and cost. Chain link costs less over long runs but deforms more easily and opens up once cut. Where a masonry wall already exists, carrying mesh on top of it usually costs less than building a full-height fence from the ground.
Welded mesh. The wires are welded at every intersection, so cutting one does not unravel the panel and the aperture keeps its shape under load. Chain link is woven, so a single cut lets the fabric open. Welded mesh also holds a tighter aperture at the same wire diameter, which is what stops hands and tools reaching through.
Height follows the risk at that section and the client's specification, so there is no single national figure. As a working rule, 2.0 to 2.4 m of mesh above a wall removes any easy handhold, while anything under about 1.8 m can be climbed by an adult without equipment. Guyanese buyers often quote in feet — 6 ft is roughly 1.83 m and 8 ft roughly 2.44 m — so confirm which unit the bill of quantities is written in before ordering.
The zinc layer does the work, not the paint. Specify a galvanised coating class matched to the corrosion category of the site, and treat the coastal belt as more aggressive than the interior because of salt air. Two details fail first: the bottom of the panel standing in water, and cut ends or site welds left bare. Keep the base drained and touch up every cut before handover.
Yes, and it is often the cheapest way to raise security on a site that already has a wall. The wall carries the posts, so the fixings and post centres have to suit the wall's construction, and panels are sized to the wall line rather than to ground-level post spacing. Send the wall height, thickness and a photo and we will confirm the fixing detail.
Not by itself, and a supplier who claims otherwise is overselling. A fence removes casual access, defines the perimeter and buys time, and that time only counts if lighting, alarms, cameras or guards are positioned to use it. At interior camps the realistic gain is that approach routes become predictable and covered, not that the site becomes attack-proof.
Panels, posts and fixings travel as one sea consignment, packed by section so the contractor can work along the line in sequence. Port of discharge is normally Georgetown. The schedule runs from confirmation of the panel schedule and coating specification, and sea transit is the longer leg, so the vessel slot should be booked against the site programme rather than against the order date.
Total length of run, required height above the wall or ground, post spacing, coating class or the corrosion category of the site, the aperture you want, and the port of discharge. With those we confirm a panel schedule and price against the bill of quantities.
Send the run length, height, post spacing, coating specification and destination port, and we will come back with the panel schedule and price. Jinbiao has manufactured fencing for infrastructure, boundary and security applications since 1990.
